Sunday marks the end of the three day nationwide collection which has been lead by the NGO Techo. In seven cities across Mexico thousands of young volunteers have been raising money to combat poverty through the building of houses in poor communities, and educating both children and adults to provide better future prospects.

In order to raise the funds, teenagers have taken to the streets to ask passersby for donations, as well as throwing various fundraising parties, and organising raffles. Speaking to Maria, a volunteer in the Zocalo in Puebla, she explained that she is volunteering for Techo because she believes that everyone deserves to live in a suitable home, and that the eighty-thousand pesos which each office aims to raise goes a long way in helping this dream.

On Saturday, the Puebla branch of Techo had raised thirty-thousand pesos of its target, and with Sunday being the peak day for donations, volunteers were positive that they would meet their target. Techo, or Un Techo Para Mi País, has offices in 19 countries in Latin America, as well as in the USA, Germany, Belgium and England.
