A national survey on public safety has found that 69.8 percent of Puebla’s population do not consider the city a peaceful place to live, placing the city thirteenth on the list of most dangerous Mexican cities.
Puebla gained similar results to cities such as Cancún, Monterrey, and Morelia, whilst Mérida and Campeche registered as being considered the safest cities, with 60 percent of inhabitants saying they are safe places to live. According to the National Institute of Geography and Statistics, poblanos feel most unsafe when using ATMs or public transport.
Shockingly, over three quarters of those interviewed claim to have witnesses some sort of assault r robbery, as well as drunkenness in the public- an illegal offence. As a result of these statistics, it does not come as a surprise that there is very little confidence in the ability of the police to reinforce law and order: 63.7 percent believe the police to be ineffective.
All these results culminate in the belief that the security situation in the city can only get worse, with a damning 68.4 percent stating this idea.
